Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Adoptoza ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

2. Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use Adoptoza. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 13 years of age or older.

If we discover that a user is under 13, we will immediately terminate their account and delete their personal information in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

3. Description of Service

Adoptoza is a civic engagement platform that presents political statements in a neutralized format, allowing users to evaluate ideas on their merit without partisan bias. The Service includes:

  • Voting on neutralized political statements
  • Viewing aggregate voting statistics
  • Participating in discussions via comments
  • Submitting statements for consideration
  • Premium features for Supporter subscribers
  • Engagement tracking (streaks, ranks, badges)

4. User Accounts

Registration: You must sign in with a Google account to use most features. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and all activity under it.

Accurate Information: You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep it updated.

One Account Per Person: Each person may only maintain one account. Creating multiple accounts to manipulate voting, circumvent bans, or game engagement metrics is strictly prohibited.

Account Termination: We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or engage in abusive behavior. See Section 11 for appeal process.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Create multiple accounts or use bots/automation to manipulate votes
  • Post hateful, threatening, racist, or harassing content
  • Share personal information about other users (doxxing)
  • Spam, post repetitive content, or make irrelevant promotional posts
  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or compromise the Service
  • Impersonate other users, public figures, or Adoptoza staff
  • Use the Service for illegal purposes
  • Circumvent rate limits, bans, or other protective measures
  • Scrape, crawl, or collect data without permission
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code

6. Community Guidelines

Adoptoza is built on respectful, constructive dialogue. The following content is prohibited and will be removed:

  • Hate speech: Content attacking individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality
  • Harassment: Personal attacks, bullying, or targeted abuse of other users
  • Violence: Threats, incitement, or glorification of violence
  • Misinformation: Deliberately false information presented as fact
  • Spam: Repetitive, promotional, or off-topic content
  • Sexual content: Explicit or inappropriate sexual material
  • Illegal activity: Content promoting illegal actions

Enforcement: Violations may result in content removal, temporary suspension, or permanent ban depending on severity. We use AI-assisted moderation with human review for appeals.

7. User-Generated Content

Comments: Comments should be respectful and contribute to constructive dialogue. We use AI moderation (powered by Anthropic's Claude) to filter inappropriate content. Human moderators may also review and remove content that violates our guidelines.

Submitted Statements: Statements submitted by users must include accurate source citations from reputable sources. We reserve the right to edit, neutralize, or reject submissions at our discretion.

Content License: By submitting content (comments, statements), you grant Adoptoza a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute that content on the platform. You retain ownership of your content.

Removal: You may delete your own comments. Deleted content may take up to 30 days to be fully removed from our systems.

8. Subscriptions & Payments

Supporter Subscriptions: Premium features are available through paid subscriptions. Payments are processed securely by Stripe.

Billing: Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually as selected. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of your current billing period.

Automatic Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. You will be charged at the then-current rate.

Refunds: We offer full refunds within 7 days of initial purchase if you're unsatisfied with the Service. To request a refund, email billing@adoptoza.com. Refunds are not available after 7 days or for renewals.

9. Disclaimers

Statement Accuracy: While we strive for accuracy and neutrality, we cannot guarantee that all statements are perfectly neutralized or that all sources remain accurate over time. Users should conduct their own research and verify information independently.

No Political Advice: Adoptoza is for educational and civic engagement purposes only. We do not provide political advice, endorse any candidates or parties, or advocate for specific policies.

User Opinions: Comments and votes represent individual user opinions and do not reflect the views of Adoptoza.

Service Availability: The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, secure, or error-free access.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Adoptoza, its operators, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of goodwill, or any other intangible losses.

11. Account Suspension and Appeals

Suspension: We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You will be notified of the reason for suspension when possible.

Appeals: If you believe your account was suspended in error, you may appeal by emailing appeals@adoptoza.com within 30 days of suspension. Include your account email and explanation. We will review appeals within 14 business days.

Permanent Bans: Severe violations (hate speech, harassment, illegal activity) may result in permanent bans without appeal.

12. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes shall be settled in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
